SÃO PAULO

For the Informal Urbanisms video installation, I worked with footage from the neighborhood of Heliopolis, which was once considered the largest favela in Brazil, largely composed of self-built shacks. As the neighborhood evolved, it slowly formalized land and property ownership, witnessed an increase in bricks and mortar construction processes, and made connections to Sao Paulo’s public infrastructure. I revisited and repurposed this footage again while editing of The Quito Papers: Towards an Open City.
