INITIAL RETURN

Initial Return is a 16mm experimental film that I shot as my senior thesis at Harvard in 2000-2001. It is an exploration of the Mughal era Walled City at the heart of Lahore, Pakistan through the eyes of an unnamed American woman. The project is especially important to me because it is how I got to know the late Mani Kaul, who was an exceptional experimental filmmaker and teacher and became a dear friend and mentor.

Initial Return premiered at the Cineteca di Bologna Oficinema film festival in 2004.
